The corset cycle represents a continuing process of growing consciousness, a search
or personal existence.
I started designing corsets in 1973. At first they symbolized deformation
and suffocation on the one hand, support on the other, in a dualistic symbiosis
linking all these aspects indissolubly.
In retrospect, however, one can see each corset as a shedding, a skin cast
off so as to start a new phase of development in the search for an authentic
self.
After a long stop I began to execute 7 sketches( made in 1982) for the flying corsets.
The last three kites are the result of computer drawings.
The positive (pst. Vl.) and the negative (ngt. Vl.) kite mirror each other,
a mirroring that may result in a new metamorphosis.
Today's freedom equals the breakaway from yesterday.
Spinoza ( from: Ethica 1, def. 7 ):
That which we shall call 'free'is free only because it
has been dictated by the true nature of the self. It performs work only when
compelled to do so by the dictates of its own self.
